Will Biden Elected Again In 2024 Elections ?

As the 2024 presidential race gains momentum, the Democratic Party finds itself in a precarious position with no contingency plan if President Joe Biden were to step back from his re-election campaign. Despite dwindling poll numbers and concerns about Biden’s age, the absence of a viable Plan B could lead to a chaotic intraparty struggle.

Biden, at 81, has faced questions about his ability to endure the rigors of another term, but he remains resolute in seeking re-election, having cleared the field of potential Democratic contenders earlier this year. Even if other Democrats were to enter the race now, logistical challenges arise as critical state deadlines for primary ballot access have already passed in states like Nevada, South Carolina, and Georgia.

Biden loyalists argue that the party can rely on his track record to secure victory, dismissing the need for a backup plan. However, concerns about the oldest president in U.S. history facing health issues or stepping aside have prompted discussions among current and former officials.

In the event of Biden’s withdrawal, potential scenarios include the selection of a new nominee at the Democratic convention next August or later, in accordance with party rules. Vice President Kamala Harris, facing her own popularity challenges, would not automatically assume the top candidate position but could benefit from their joint campaign infrastructure if she chose to run.

“There is no Plan B. If he were … suddenly not to run, everyone you know would run. The VP scares no one,” admitted a senior Democrat.

Should Biden exit during the ongoing Democratic primaries, other candidates could enter the race based on state filing requirements. However, the logistical challenges of setting up a presidential campaign, fundraising, and meeting ballot deadlines in crucial states present formidable obstacles.

Despite concerns and trepidation among some Democrats, party officials remain united behind Biden. “Joe Biden will be the Democratic nominee and he will beat whichever MAGA extremist the Republicans put forward,” asserted Biden campaign spokesperson Daniel Wessel.

On the Republican side, former President Donald Trump, 77, faces similar concerns about age and legal issues. However, the GOP benefits from multiple candidates challenging Trump in the primary, providing built-in alternatives.

The age factor has become a defining element of the 2024 campaign, prompting calls for Biden to assess whether running again is in the best interest of the country. A physical examination in February declared Biden healthy and “fit for duty,” but his approval rating hit a low of 39% in a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll.

As Democratic primaries approach, questions about Biden’s candidacy persist, and the absence of a backup plan leaves the party vulnerable to potential upheaval. The coming months will reveal whether Biden’s determination to secure a second term will outweigh concerns about age and the need for a contingency strategy.
